Elements 3 Tutorial
Cookie Cutter - Digital
Scrapbooking
There's a great new tool in Elements 3 called
the 'Cookie Cutter Tool' and although it has
many uses, it is especially helpful to digital
scrapbookers. You need to play around with this
tool, there's so many neat things you can do
with it.
First, create a new project. 200 x 200 is a good
size, any color background. Now create a new
layer with a contrasting color or pattern and
select the cookie cutter tool, picking the shape
you want to cut out of the top layer. Draw out
the shape and select the check mark (commit
transform) icon at the top of the menu or just
hit the 'return/enter' key to finalize it. If
you don't like the way it looks, select the
'cancel transform' icon at the top of the menu
or just hit the 'esc' key.
You should have a shape cut out on another layer
now that looks similar to the first example
below. You can keep repeating this process as
many times as you want or just
clone it remembering
to select the cutout layer first.

You can also use the cookie cutter tool to cut a
shape out of a photograph. Try it. Below are
some other variations using the cookie cutter
tool:

Sorry about the cupcakes but when I think of
cookies... I'm sure you can think of much
more creative uses than the quick examples shown
here.
